Films
Bhojpuri films have a far and wide viewership. Several film personalities from this region have made rich contributions to cinema. Mr. Viswanth Shahabadi had made ‘GANGA MAIYA TOHEN PIYARI CHADHAIBO’ in 1960 which is still today widely acclaimed. Mr. Janardan Singh of Ara made ‘PIYA NIRMOHIA’ with Jai Tilak of Ara as Hero. Sri Ashok Chand Jain and Mr. Laxman Shahabadi have made the film ‘GANGA KINARE MORA GAON’ in which the latter’s songs had been appreciated a lot. Mr. Jai Mohan of Ara was the villain of this film. Similarly many more artist have worked in films from this region and have made Ara the Hollywood of Bhojpuri films.
Musical Tradition :
The musical tradition of the district has been rich since the past and is getting enriched in present times also. Mr. Laxman Shahabadi, Prof Ramnath Pathak and Sri Arvind Krishan of Ara have contributed towards Film songs and music. Ara resident Sarafat Ali has sung with Usha Mangeshkar and Dilraj Kauri for film ‘GANGA KAI GAON MAI’.
Literature :
Bhojpur has a rich literary lineage. Munshi Sadasukh Lal, Sayed Ishautullah, Lallu lal and Sadal Mishra ara famous for their work in ‘Khari Boli’. From Bhartendu era Akhoury Yashodanad was as famous as editor and Sri Shivnandan Sahay for biography writings. Sri Jainendra Kishor Jain was well known novelist and dramatist. In Dwivedi era Mahamahopadhyay Pundit Sakal Narayan Sharma and Pundit Ramdahin Mishra were famous for prose writing. Acharya Shivpujan Sahay , great story writer, novelist and essayist,was from this area. In Chayavadi era Sri Kedarnath Mishra Prabhat, Sri Ramdayal Pandey, Collector Singh Keshari, Sri Nandkisor Tiwari and Sri Ramnath Pathak Pranaye were well known for their poetic skills. Sports :
Bhojpur District is progressing very fast in the field of sports . The District Sports Associations are actively promote games and sports. They are creating sporting environment for a large variety of games with the vitality, interest & involvement of the local people .
There is a very beautiful stadium namely Veer Kunwar Sigh Stadium, in the heart of Ramna Maidan , Ara. Beautiful cimented stairs has been made to sit the people. Many games is being arranged time to time here. It is also a open manch for Kavi sammelan or like programs.

Abdul bari – An important hero of Bhojpur
Abdul bari is famous as Professor. He was great devotee of Mahatma Gandhi. He was the noted hero of Indian Independence Freedom. His father was a police inspector. He was born on 21th January 1884 in Koilwar anchal of Bhojpur district. He has been selected combined secretary of Khilafat comittee in Bihar. In 21 February 1921, he had addressed a huge crowd at Chauk Masjid, Ara with Dr. Rajendra Prasad.
He was selected as Secretary of Swraj Parti of Bihar branch. He has been selected a member in Independence India Legue, which had been established on 3rd November 1928 by Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru and Subhash Chandra Bosh. He had been a editor of the paper – THE INDEPENDENCE, a english paper established by Moti Lal Nehru. He has worked with Dr Rajendra Prasad in Sawinay Awagya Andolan.
Pandit Hargovind Mishra – A pride of Bhojpur
Pandit Hargovind was famous with Mishra Baba in Shahabad District. He was the prime leader of Indian Independence Movement. His took birth in the Parsonda village of Shahpur Block in 1892. He was very affected with the three leader Bindeshwari Singh, Shaligram Singh (Kulharia) and Jawala Prasad (Bihiya) of his time. When in 1912 Bihar and Urisa had came into existance, He was very affected with Sachiddanand Sinha. In 1912 he came to Patna Adhiweshan of Congress in the leadership of R. N. Mudholkar. Champaran Satyagrah (1917) of Mahatma Gandhi had reeled him baddly. That andolan was against the Nil farmer of European. The event of Jaliyawala Bag in 1919 had baddly affected his heart and soul and he jumped into the Satyagrah Andolan against the wish of his parent.
Harnandan Singh :- A Hero of Indian Independence Movement
Babu Harnandan singh was famous as vakeel Babu in Bhojpur. His main aim was – In any how, to get freedom from the slavery of the English. He took birth at the home of Shiv Narayan Singh at Bag Majhaua in the Koilwar block. In 1937 he had leaded in the Ara Assembly . He had worked with Gandhiji in his Asahyog Andolan.
Jagjivan Ram – Babu Ji
Jagjiwan Ram was famous in name of Babuji. He was the noted leader of Indian Independence Freedom. He was become the great MP and a good Minister. He took birth on 5th April 1908 at Chandwa, Ara. He got the school education from Majani School, Ara in 1922 and then got admission in Ara Town School. He was very intelligent and so always got scholarship in each class.
In 1928 at Calcutta and in 1929 at Lahor, he participated in Congress Adhiweshan in the leadership of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru. He left the Government Service and jumped into Namak Satyagrah Andolan. He was arrested with Boodhan Roy Verma in Ara later.
The try of Babu Jagjiwan Ram appears on the screen in All India. Mahadeva Mandir of Ara and Shiv Mandir of Brahampur had been opened for lower caste. He had been elected and Nagar Aukt of Ara Nagar Nigam in 1933.
He had taken oath as youngest leader in the ministry fo Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in 1946. He had been the member of Indian Constitution and worked for social justice. He had been the Dy Prime Minister in the Morarji Government from 1977 to 1979.
Late Sri Ram Subhag Singh:
Noted freedom fighter , who led the freedom movement to the common masses. He was sent to jail in 1943 where he was assaulted badly by the police
Late Sri Jagnnath Sahay:
Resident of Baghawa Gali of Ara was first person from this district who went to Japan in 1905 for technical education. He returned as Textile Engineer in 1908.
Late Sri Kashinath Jee:
This Ara resident had established at Phulwarisharif the first Cloth Mill in the entire state. This Mill was inaugurated in 1936 by Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru.
Late Kavi Kailash:
The great freedom fighter and martyr Kavi Kailash of Ghoradei village had successfully unflung Tiranga dogging at Ara collectorate on 28th sept.1942. He was later killed by Baluchi police near collectorate pond.
Late Sri V.P. Singh:
He was the first Chief Justice of Supreme court of India.
Late Sri Ambika Saran Singh:
He was a noted freedom fighter and later served as State Minister of Bihar.
Late Bindeshwari Dubey:
Former Chief Minister of Bihar had also served as central minister of India.
Late Sri Ram Subhag Singh:
Noted political leader who became Rail Minister of India.

He was Home Minister of Bihar.
